Great South Run 2019

On Sunday 20th October, 22 runners represented Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) at the 2019 Great South Run.

As the sun came out for the day, 20,000 participants gave up their Sunday morning snooze to take part in the 10-mile run.

Collectively, our runners raised over £5,000 for HIOWAA. One of those was Chris, who took part in the Great South Run with his sister, Chloe, for the second time:

“It was a fantastic day. We were worried it would rain all week but in fact the weather was perfect, and we really appreciated the sea breeze that cooled us down. We beat our previous time by over 10 minutes, finishing in 1 hour and 35 minutes, so next time the target will be under 90 minutes!”

He added: “We raise money for HIOWAA after our Dad’s life was saved thanks to the service. Both mine and Chloe’s work places will match the money we raised, which is a great bonus. It feels great for us to be able to say thank you by raising money and awareness for HIOWAA.”

Another of our runners, Nicola Cook, who took part said:

“It was such a brilliant day and although my training didn’t go to plan, I did it and got my friend through her first ever Great South Run. I am so proud to have run for everyone at HIOWAA, you are all utter heroes in my eyes.”

Nicola, the feeling is mutual!
