At 5.30am on Friday 28 August, eight members of the Widows Sons Southern Chapter Masonic Bikers Association set off on a 1,834-mile ride from Horndean to John O’Groats, then on to Lands End, to raise money for us.
Trevor, Widows Sons Southern Chapter, who took part in the ride, said:
“The day started for us at 4.45am to get to the start. At 5.15am the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth arrived and was introduced to the riders. He started the ride for us at 5.30, just as it started to rain. We rode until junction 23A where we were met by the Midlands chapter of the Widows Sons for bacon and sausage rolls and tea and coffee. Back on the road up to Scotland.
It continued to rain throughout the day, but the riders were in good spirits. The rain stopped as we crossed the border into Scotland, where we we met by our Scottish brethren who escorted us from Edinburgh right up to Inverness, where we had accommodation for the night. First thing Saturday morning we were escorted to John O’Groats and said goodbye to our Scottish brethren.
Sunday morning came and we had a very long ride to Lands End. Starting at 4.45am, we left Preston straight and were escorted to the Borders of Cornwall. After a cheque presentation from the Devon Widows Sons, we were met by our brothers from Cornwall, the South West Chapter, who escorted us down to Lands End. I am pleased to say we were presented with another cheque and, after a photo session, we said our goodbyes and headed to Exeter. There we were met by the lads of The Southern Chapter. We arrived back in Portsmouth at 9pm, after completing 1,940 miles. I am pleased to say we have so far raised over £8,000, with more donations promised.”

In November last year, members of the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association Southern Chapter and Provincial Grand Master, Michael Wilks, were welcomed to our Airbase by HIOWAA CEO, Alex Lochrane, where they generously presented a cheque of £8,000.
