Meet our new Schools and Youth Co-ordinator!

Tuesday 30th July 2019

Earlier this month, Ethan Ford started his placement year as the new Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Schools and Youth Co-ordinator. He will be helping to deliver our popular education programmes, Be a 999 Hero and LifeLines, to children across the region alongside Jo, our Education Programme Manager.

“My journey towards my placement year at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) began in September 2017, when I started university. I have always been a very sporty, outgoing and headstrong boy and because of this I decided Sports Development and Coaching Sciences, at the University of Bournemouth, was the course for me. A lot of my studies are based on the biomechanics of athletes and what being a coach and role model means.

When I spotted the advert for the role, it was as if a lightbulb went off in my head. Who wouldn’t want to work for a charity that provides a vital life-saving service? HIOWAA, from an outsider’s perspective, doesn’t seem like a regular charity and after being here for three weeks I can safely say that I was right. The office has such a warm and welcoming environment, full of humour yet still so hardworking. I have already met so many incredible people with incredible stories.

This year I hope to bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the fundraising team. Alongside Jo, I have already set my targets high, with the aim to launch a brand new schools and youth campaign in the coming months.

I hope to go back to university in my fourth year with an entirely new skill set such as; co-leading, organising events and presentations, communicating with other businesses, presenting to various groups, keeping to the values identified in an organisation and to uphold a work-life balance, all of which I can apply to life as a graduate.”
