Spinnaker Tower Takeover!

Monday 22nd July

Last weekend (13-14th July), Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) teamed up with the Spinnaker Tower for our first ever ‘Tower Takeover’.

Supporters of the life-saving Charity braved the 100 metre tall tower by abseiling down the side of the iconic landmark, or by edging their way onto a platform 25 metres above sea level, before taking the ultimate leap of faith.

One of the many participants, Simon Gibb, of tmd Building Consultancy Ltd, enjoyed the views from the top of the tower having absolutely ‘sailed’ past his target of £350, managing to raise an incredible £1,150! We spoke to Simon after the event, who said:

“Taking part in the HIOWAA Spinnaker Tower abseil was a great experience in support of what is an essential service for Hampshire and Isle of Wight. It was especially so for me as I did it with my old friend John Lewis, who has been a stalwart supporter of HIOWAA over the years. It was great to be ‘on the tower’ as we came down and be there to greet him at the bottom!”

He added: “I am indebted to the sponsorship given to me by my friends and work colleagues in doing the abseil and thank them all very much for their support.”

Also braving new heights, were HIOWAA’s very own Gemma, Leanne and Kirsty, who between them, managed to raise an amazing £1,375! Great work team HIOWAA!

In total, the weekend raised over a staggering £14,000, which will is vital in keeping the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.

A huge well done and thank you to everyone involved and to all those who donated.
